Last episode of the season!
<BR>
Not the strongest storyline in this one, it's pretty predictable from the very start. A high-end perfumery shop in town gets robbed and one of the owners killed and it's up to Jean to track down the culprit. There's a few interesting bits of perfume related trivia she lets us know about along the way. Jeremy and Judith unknowingly offer their help when they let her know that the perfume Jeremy had bought recently at the shop was NOT up to its usual standards...which does turn out to be a major clue in the case. <BR>

I guess there is also supposed to be a Christmas episode for this last Christmas, but it'll probably get tacked onto next season again for the US market. <BR>
I don't know if there'll be anything else for me to review while I'm waiting for season 3 to make its appearance, so I'll see you when I see you, ha ha

But episode 6 is a particularly Jeremy-heavy one! <BR>

Jeremy and Judith are hosting an old rock star friend at their manor, who will be using one of their outbuildings to record his comeback album. The guy's name is "Dura" and in the Madame Blanc universe, he was quite a famous prog-rocker type guy back in the day...who still looks incredibly young. <BR>

I love how they snuck a little "Window Cleaner" reference into this one, by having Robin's character Jeremy unload window washing tools for use in cleaning up the new home he and his wife just bought, ha!
<BR>
Anyway, this episode is happily very Jeremy heavy so that makes for a lot of photos for my blog...<BR>

He and his wife Judith have bought a large country estate. I thought they already owned one? But anyway, for some reason they did and were going to use it for some kind of party and had to get it ready fast. Only, the first day they're there, they hear a gunshot and find the former owner dead in one of the rooms. <BR>

The police are called and they are told they have to leave for a few days.<BR>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiRvjvsUTcUOCUGJxf520p7DRpZpF7RJutw2sd-Tc5bwnxGwZOzfMAC4qjjRB3Dp-HFIR_hGIpBfxFhV07d2uRJXMXjAGwVpRGWUKlQeaqmRlB7aFJViK7hSyOrJ6LNe1LdqUJUVlXrV7oBvyye-Bh21qcyIQJRkUGZQAinG-TYGnZXA7uvRIAq5eZ52I/s2890/DSCN9159.JPG" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="1854" data-original-width="2890" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiRvjvsUTcUOCUGJxf520p7DRpZpF7RJutw2sd-Tc5bwnxGwZOzfMAC4qjjRB3Dp-HFIR_hGIpBfxFhV07d2uRJXMXjAGwVpRGWUKlQeaqmRlB7aFJViK7hSyOrJ6LNe1LdqUJUVlXrV7oBvyye-Bh21qcyIQJRkUGZQAinG-TYGnZXA7uvRIAq5eZ52I/s320/DSCN9159.JPG"/></a></div><BR>
Jean White is then called in to solve the mystery, so she arrives with her sidekick Dom to investigate. Now, Jeremy and Judith are NOT pleased with this at all because, like I said, they need to get the place ready for the party ASAP. <BR>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyoe1ZPINYp_uE5aBxSL7RYB39S7o786DVwCKMTjGgfw-rhtS0SjYvWQ7mggNTlLG8LGAQAYOm1enbdjyVTh8e_EqS6iCupf_aldjTdKz-R-9kDAvM_KTbSnP9XXFkyu7puTTc0cvpUwzXD-yUC6PdArvoPYrAUNExKM2frN4TbroK4V_4gAWYQ3ARPsE/s2636/DSCN9154.JPG" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="1825" data-original-width="2636" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyoe1ZPINYp_uE5aBxSL7RYB39S7o786DVwCKMTjGgfw-rhtS0SjYvWQ7mggNTlLG8LGAQAYOm1enbdjyVTh8e_EqS6iCupf_aldjTdKz-R-9kDAvM_KTbSnP9XXFkyu7puTTc0cvpUwzXD-yUC6PdArvoPYrAUNExKM2frN4TbroK4V_4gAWYQ3ARPsE/s320/DSCN9154.JPG"/></a></div><BR>
So... since Dom has access to the house, Jeremy has an idea...<BR>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJmGwZrP7-fynRsmJnjp0VreUYxm0BhliernkAObYtrybb7EmJ6fP3IWLxysWHpEGEBG5cbaz7FHDrkRHy247_1w5LEhxI3D0zgnELa8ZZxAxcQJfA8MyE9-IBGh7HtJx_pz-rkuWBIJS4J5m47sGqgHDehGtS3PjRk5792552tuPYEU_aQY92ETPAsLA/s2578/DSCN9160.JPG" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="1587" data-original-width="2578" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJmGwZrP7-fynRsmJnjp0VreUYxm0BhliernkAObYtrybb7EmJ6fP3IWLxysWHpEGEBG5cbaz7FHDrkRHy247_1w5LEhxI3D0zgnELa8ZZxAxcQJfA8MyE9-IBGh7HtJx_pz-rkuWBIJS4J5m47sGqgHDehGtS3PjRk5792552tuPYEU_aQY92ETPAsLA/s320/DSCN9160.JPG"/></a></div><BR>
Dom, needing money badly, is talked into taking measurements of each room while he's in the house so Jeremy and Judith can order all new furnishings or draperies or something. (Not something that can actually be DONE in just two weeks, in my experience!) <BR>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg11Mw_M_2lyuvyOjjzxVsnGGUa8SLw7bs2R5wEHV9gfCYPH62C_uIQrqcm_xf_jAjpDmwyzOSbcBnjU8qNGimHwegE2iSIesFuG1I6SoYec-FOq56F00O54ugvVdO3s_Tdv6jq35-DURp3J8G2v0dSaR9Pcg8OzExvdw3vDPF__i_Keik4snqfzTBFNzw/s2819/DSCN9161.JPG" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="1681" data-original-width="2819" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg11Mw_M_2lyuvyOjjzxVsnGGUa8SLw7bs2R5wEHV9gfCYPH62C_uIQrqcm_xf_jAjpDmwyzOSbcBnjU8qNGimHwegE2iSIesFuG1I6SoYec-FOq56F00O54ugvVdO3s_Tdv6jq35-DURp3J8G2v0dSaR9Pcg8OzExvdw3vDPF__i_Keik4snqfzTBFNzw/s320/DSCN9161.JPG"/></a></div><BR>
So, as for the mystery Jean is working on, she gets it solved in no time, the culprit was very predictable as there just weren't that many characters in this episode to work with. However, she finds out what Dom did when Jeremy lets it slip how Dom had saved the day for them. <BR>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUF4OxHeZw3zfpv74d-ZDQK3j-UmKXb6X9AoHuUFquo_0La6sIxfjDYZZGRQgpr5GnhwyQL18hAEtQC6XJDpNTNAvO8DpMGYgJQsK0UNF0SDEoOCAnikRITn7px_Qb9wIAN0rxFh_RzCMKEe6OnNrwyNodDHg1aya0fssPaxjitX2YMC52z8k8IL1AEac/s1804/DSCN9165.JPG" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="1372" data-original-width="1804" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUF4OxHeZw3zfpv74d-ZDQK3j-UmKXb6X9AoHuUFquo_0La6sIxfjDYZZGRQgpr5GnhwyQL18hAEtQC6XJDpNTNAvO8DpMGYgJQsK0UNF0SDEoOCAnikRITn7px_Qb9wIAN0rxFh_RzCMKEe6OnNrwyNodDHg1aya0fssPaxjitX2YMC52z8k8IL1AEac/s320/DSCN9165.JPG"/></a></div><BR>
So now Jean is mad at Dom and that's how the episode is left hanging. But all is well with our favorite couple, so I say that wraps up another great episode! <BR>

This episode finds the characters at a funeral for a local actress who had been one of the theater committee's members. Now, Robin's Jeremy just happens to be head of the group and is looking to replace her quickly, as they'll lose the right to use the historic theater without the required number of committee members. <BR>

The actress's adult daughter is in town for the funeral and winds up finding out a family secret...that she was NOT the daughter of this actress, but instead the actress's sister, who had been murdered in that very theater back in 1974! So...she gets Jean White on the case! <BR>

Jean figures out that her mom had been killed because of a priceless gift given to her by her daughter's real dad, a foreign dignitary, which she had hidden somewhere in the theater. They decide the best way to get access to all areas is for the daughter to take her mother's place on the theater committee. <BR>

But murder happens again before the episode is through... a poor cleaning guy who Jeremy had bribed to clean the room where the crime had taken place so long ago.....

But, before you know it, Jean has all the loose ends tied up neatly and the killer found and the gift discovered in plain sight.

Nice that this one starts right off with the focus on Robin's Jeremy character! He's out celebrating with his mates and has way too much to drink. <BR>

So then he must go to the police, and eventually Jean White gets in on figuring out the mystery. Judith has her suspicions about it being Jeremy's lover and he had killed her! Don't know where THAT came from, but it was kind of funny. <BR>
One clue I caught on to right away was the "Afro comb" the victim was found with. Now, I do remember these "combs" being used a lot in the 70s by people with Afros. BUT my family had a whole set of antique cutlery with one of these "combs" among it. I looked it up once and found they are really cake slicers for angel food cake. And, on the show there just happened to be some chefs visiting the town to promote a cookbook. So, I put things together right away, before Jean did! <BR>

I last watched this show on the Acorn channel, but have since let my subscription expire. BUT I recently found out that our public library system gives us access to a couple streaming channels. One of them, Hoopla, carries this show! What luck!

Jean White is back in this French village and it is Christmastime. Right away the wife of her friend, the Inspecteur André Caron; chief of local police is murdered and he is the only suspect. So she is on the case!

Robin makes an appearance as Santa Claus at the village's Christmas party. He and his wife are adorable in every scene they're in. I'm really enjoying when they're onscreen. They didn't really have anything to do with the main storyline and thus don't get much to do, but hopefully that will improve in later episodes! <BR>

<BR><BR>
It's been over a year since I posted the last entry??? How is this possible???
<BR><BR>
I've been a fan of this show since the beginning, it's on HBOmax here in the U.S. and it is so interesting. So I was happy to see Robin was going to have a guest starring role in an episode of the latest season, "Troubled Blood"! Too bad I had to wait until the 4th and final episode to see him, though.
<BR><BR>
As this is a murdery mystery show, investigators C.B. Strike and Robin Ellacot are hired by a woman to find her mother, Dr. Margot Bamborough, who is presumed dead after having disappeared in 1974 when the woman was still a child. After lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing, we are finally led to Robin's character of Steve Douthwaite, aka Steve Jacks, aka Steve Diamond. He had been a patient of Margot's when he was seeing her for some weird stomach ailments he had been experiencing. Since then, all his aliases and moving around and switching jobs led the detectives to suspect he had something to do with her disappearance and try to track him down, finally finding him running a hotel in a small town with his wife, who knows nothing about his past.

<BR><BR>
I found it amusing as a Robin fan that one of the jobs he had in the past was a worker at a Holiday Camp!
<BR><BR>
There were lots of flashbacks of Steve as a young man in the '70s, but the guy who played him did not look like Robin at all and I feel they could have done a lot better choosing someone with similar hair and features.
<BR><BR>
Robin played the role very earnestly and sympathetically. A departure from his usually jokey demeanor and he did a good job at it.
<BR><BR>
Anyway, I won't give anything away, since I think the identity of the killer was very unpredictable and you will enjoy finding out for yourself how they wrapped up the case!

So....skipping my commentary of those here and going right to the finale of the season. I do hope there'll be a season 2!

Jean White has sold her house in the village and is ready to leave for England. To make it all the more upsetting, the slight hint of romance between her and Dom has been squashed because his wife, who had left him two years prior, is back and appears to want to pick up where she left off. Robin-as-Jeremy is shown at the bar with his wife, happily planning Jean's going-away party.
<BR><BR>
The loose ends of the season get wrapped up by the end...who killed her husband and why...and now is Jean's life in danger? ...and why is Dom's wife REALLY back? You'll have to watch to find out!
<BR><BR>
Good job, Robin! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another season of you in this!

Episode 3 finds Jeremy and Judith holding an 80s-themed 35th anniversary party! Complete with a poster of their wedding day showing a younger Robin, which I thought was a cute touch:

But, wouldn't you know, there's a murder at the celebration - I won't say who - and thankfully Jean White is soon on the case!
<BR><BR>
Robin steals every scene he's in, he's adorable in this episode, playing so very oblivious, and the looks his wife gives him are just priceless!

I'm really getting into this show! Fun and simple to follow. This episode finds Jean White helping a woman in town track down information about her birth family, who were separated during WW2, leaving her with just a few antique items to trace. One clue leads her to the grounds of Jeremy (Robin)'s place. His story is revealed more in this episode. His family had been the owners of a large chateau since his grandfather's day, and he and his wife live there now and are quite wealthy. He happily allows Jean and Dom (Steve Edge) to search the grounds, where they find something quite startling (hehe).
<BR><BR>
Side story is a TV show producer interviewing couples in the village for a new reality show and everyone, including Jeremy and wife, are excited about being the couple chosen. Sue Holderness plays wife Judith and is pretty funny with her over-the-top behavior and Robin does great playing her amiable husband. Some of his expressions are hilarious! Can you believe my luck lately? Another new Robin movie! Shown in the UK this Christmas season, but by Christmas Eve I found it on YouTube here in the US! Truly is a Christmas miracle! 😄
<BR><BR>
Looked low-budget, but Husband and I actually really enjoyed it. I'm always a fan of time travel movies, and this was a clever one...kept the characters on a train, but each car would take the main character back and forth through his life by a span of 10 years. All the way back to 1945, and then up to what I guess was 2015 at the end. Telling his story and him trying to figure out how to make the change that will fix the problem that gets revealed. So good! Robin played the director of an ad the main character was making on the train in 1985, and played his role with his usual exuberance.
<BR><BR>
Look it up before it gets taken off! And enjoy! Oddly enough, right after I posted a few days ago, I watched yet another new thing Robin is in! I saw that the Acorn streaming channel was offering a 99 cent a month deal for 3 months subscription with the code "HappyHoliday". And they carry "The Madame Blanc Mysteries" which I've been reading about on Twitter. (Updated update: just found out today that DailyMotion also has it, but for free. Oh well, I wanted to check out Acorn anyway...) <BR><BR>
I watched the first episode last night. It's okay, an interesting enough British murder mystery. There's this British antique dealer woman, Jean White, whose husband is killed in a car accident while buying antiques in France (filmed in Gozo, though!) She goes to the village to investigate and gets involved with the locals while doing so. Steve Edge plays the local British handyman who helps her out. I recognized him from a few other things he's been in that I've watched lately, including a really interesting series called "Starlings" which unfortunately only lasted a couple seasons. I like him. Robin really only (so far) has a small role as another British local, "Jeremy Lloyd James" who makes a couple of appearances with his...wife? I think. Sorry, too lazy to go back and re-watch to see how they are first introduced.
<BR><BR>
After watching it I was thinking to myself, "I wonder why they call it the 'Madame Blanc Mysteries'? Who is Madame Blanc?" I was assuming beforehand she was going to be a French investigator who went around solving crimes. Then I put two and two together and realized Mrs. White in French would be Madame Blanc, ha ha. Takes me awhile! But she only had her own mystery to solve. Looking forward to seeing if she's going to give up antique dealing for mystery solving! Well, hello! It's been awhile, hasn't it? I know I've been neglecting this blog terribly, but it's been a busy couple years for me. I do see that Robin's been in a few things lately and hopefully I can get to see those soon.
<BR><BR>
One thing I just watched is "Conjuring: The Book of the Dead" from 2019.... and unfortunately part of the "Evil Calls: The Raven" series that I reviewed <a href="https://robinaskwithmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/04/evil-calls-raven-2008.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> a LONG time ago.
<BR><BR>
It is currently on the free Tubi Channel, the home of tons of bad low-budget films. If you want to go watch it for yourself, go on over now because - WARNING! - this review will have major spoilers.
<BR><BR>
Robin again has a very small part in it, again plays Vincent Carney, brother of George Carney, whose wife he was having an affair with. <BR>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgiJ18Ifd-VuFNZHOdzivnot1hU9ju5x6z5vI2vhrGX5UKx0wOFv13iHdYXFvicV9_dkNWLoNkJvElEWmwE1KeHulzx6h9vEZYiZkqRqqR-uWHXz8zZJjz_MwjMNTDq8sRgENZ64eoKHxfa8CK5NXvT8s7sX6N_FsfKsdxvi-q1vM-guLd4saidHFQT=s3132" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="1955" data-original-width="3132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgiJ18Ifd-VuFNZHOdzivnot1hU9ju5x6z5vI2vhrGX5UKx0wOFv13iHdYXFvicV9_dkNWLoNkJvElEWmwE1KeHulzx6h9vEZYiZkqRqqR-uWHXz8zZJjz_MwjMNTDq8sRgENZ64eoKHxfa8CK5NXvT8s7sX6N_FsfKsdxvi-q1vM-guLd4saidHFQT=s320"/></a></div>
<BR><BR>
George Carney is the star of this one. In "Evil Calls" he had descended into madness after learning of the affair and (I think) killed his family? Can't fully remember. But now he's a writer who is writing a screenplay about the event (So...does this mean the events in the first movie didn't happen?) <BR>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgXNbBWB9W8JJIK78w2li-dVz0-cRt5MuB9OwwC_S3XIUsWgrvIlAPdRuhkZuJx-aUeXhCcaS5aiQOgs157ENDex8BS0bYEX-hI8Ob-ERw8AhEUWzHsDrcG4YAGlG_VnNAlroL5KAcFBVfbSXlvShpcvoU8QJnpbFBF2h00CNyvC5xzWcLnVVQVGJ1A=s2829" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="1251" data-original-width="2829" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgXNbBWB9W8JJIK78w2li-dVz0-cRt5MuB9OwwC_S3XIUsWgrvIlAPdRuhkZuJx-aUeXhCcaS5aiQOgs157ENDex8BS0bYEX-hI8Ob-ERw8AhEUWzHsDrcG4YAGlG_VnNAlroL5KAcFBVfbSXlvShpcvoU8QJnpbFBF2h00CNyvC5xzWcLnVVQVGJ1A=s320"/></a></div>
<BR><BR>
BUT weird things are going to happen to him in this one as well anyway. His editor sends him off to New Orleans to find out info about a rare book she had just bought which was supposedly a secret book Aleister Crowley had written just before his death. There he meets occultists in a strip club/whorehouse type place who explain things and take advantage of him so as to suit their own agenda. Which turns out to be (here's the spoiler alert!) that he is actually the grandson of Aleister Crowley himself and everyone is in on the plot (even Robin!) to get him to conceive a child with one of the occultists. One amusing fact that comes out is that he shares a birthday with his grandfather -- which is October 12....which if you're a Robin fan you know that it is also HIS birthday. Now, I never knew that! Pretty funny! <BR><BR>

I recently signed up for a subscription to Amazon Prime Video. Of course, I looked up Robin movies, see if there was anything new I'd never seen. I almost got excited to see something called "666: Salem Calling", supposedly from 2017! Had Robin done another movie recently?? Why hadn't I heard about it? Unfortunately, it turned out to be just another re-title of "Evil Calls: The Raven" from 2007 that I had reviewed <a href="https://robinaskwithmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/04/evil-calls-raven-2008.html">here</a> back in 2011. Sigh. So funny how this rather bad movie keeps resurfacing under different titles. But anyway, since now it is no longer hard to find, this is your chance to watch it. They also have "Horror Hospital", "Queen Kong", "Four Dimensions of Greta" and "Bartleby".

<BR><BR>
Finally! Something new!
<BR><BR>
Actually, I first heard about this after it aired, looked it up on YouTube, and made a mental note to come back to it. Time flies by so quickly these days that by the time I remembered it again, it was over 6 months later, ha ha.
<BR><BR>
Never heard of this British game show before. I've been watching a lot of weird British game shows lately, as I've ventured down another path, having become a little infatuated with yet another interesting British guy named Noel Fielding. And he's on a LOT of game shows. And what I've found is that they ALL seem to be pointless. Scoring never makes sense, no one ever seems to win anything huge, but then no one takes them very seriously either. Using them more as a vehicle for doing comedy, which is fun.
<BR><BR>
This one also has a very confusing scoring system which I was trying to comprehend as I went along. The goal was to score the lowest points while answering trivia questions. But not just answering, trying to answer as a bunch of polled people did not answer. Or something like that.
<BR><BR>
Well, anyway. Robin looked great. It was wonderful to see his happy face! The only other contestant I recognized was Les McKeown of the Bay City Rollers! The band I was embarrassingly a huge fan of when I was about 8-11.
<BR><BR>
Spoiler alert ahead!!!!
<BR><BR>
<BR><BR>
Les and partner were eliminated pretty early on. Robin and partner WON! Robin really is very smart about knowing what's what, that's for sure. Only there was a weird twist at the end where they didn't win the full prize for their charities because on the last question they didn't guess the answer which no one had not guessed. That's a lot of negatives for one sentence, so I'm sure I didn't say it correctly.
<BR><BR>
Anyway, it was a fun watch. He should do more of the game show / panel show type programs! There's so many of them and he is a likeable personality that would fit right in on any of them.

<BR><BR>
This year he has finally gotten his own Twitter account and is very active about posting! Love the rare photos he posts that I've never seen before, and the updates on what he's doing now!
<BR><BR>
I haven't been very active in going back and seeing if anything of his that wasn't available when I was doing this blog regularly is now out there...so if anyone knows anything, please send me a message. I've been busy discovering some other hilarious British stuff via Hulu. Namely, "Horrible Histories" and "Mighty Boosh". Ahhhh the genius that comes out of Britain is neverending! Another year gone by! And I haven't posted at all since last year, ahhh! This nice current photo of Robin I took off Twitter, so whoever took it, my apologies for copying it and I will credit you if you want to leave a message. (Or if you want me to remove it I'll do that.) I just thought it was a great pic of him looking still wonderful and happy and active, and of course, wearing a super cool Brian Jones shirt, who is another of my idols.
<BR><BR>
And, good news, speaking of Twitter, Robin IS now (sortof) on Twitter, so we can keep up with his latest projects and appearances. It's actually his girlfriend Tracy's account @T_JCrocker but it looks like he comes on it every now and then to answer questions. And she definitely posts a lot of old and new stuff about him! So happy she's brought him into the internet age!
<BR><BR>
I do miss the days when I was actively seeking out films to watch and review, someday I will have to get back into "search" mode and see if any of the stuff I was never able to find has surfaced.
<BR><BR>
So, anyway, Robin, if you secretly read this, have a happy day, and here's to at least 67 more! Step right up and watch Robin start taking “grandpa” roles.
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NgZ4ItjkP-I/Vyz3Kbb_lfI/AAAAAAAAAxY/WHFe0fPMhg8PbX_31cgDmEQacERYU-OKgCLcB/s1600/casualtyfeb16S30E22B.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NgZ4ItjkP-I/Vyz3Kbb_lfI/AAAAAAAAAxY/WHFe0fPMhg8PbX_31cgDmEQacERYU-OKgCLcB/s320/casualtyfeb16S30E22B.JPG" /></a>
<BR><BR>
This is a super boring medical drama series with really bad acting. Robin was good in his role, though. He plays “Ron Kleinman”, 65 year old grandpa to a mentally disabled teenaged girl who loves going to the local carnival. Her mom (supposedly his daughter, although they could have gotten an actress that looks at least a tiny bit like him) is estranged from him due to his not being around a lot when she was younger and warns him he’s forbidden to get close to the girl. But he’s changed his hard-drinking ways and wants the chance to prove it to her and be the loving devoted grandpa he now wants to be. And the girl adores him (not that I can blame her ;) )
<BR><BR>
Anyway, the mom finds them at the carnival about to go on a ride and is furious. Robin tries to calm her down and is about to go get the girl off the moving ride but is thrown off, hurting his arm. The girl is also hurt. They all must be taken to the hospital where this show’s stories take place.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-91zLTiqyc5Y/Vyz3btlxirI/AAAAAAAAAxc/cJUmKIVJ4YEtFb4UD9mg0T1XtXMbRt9qwCLcB/s1600/casualtyfeb16S30E22C.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-91zLTiqyc5Y/Vyz3btlxirI/AAAAAAAAAxc/cJUmKIVJ4YEtFb4UD9mg0T1XtXMbRt9qwCLcB/s320/casualtyfeb16S30E22C.JPG" /></a></div>
<BR><BR>
So, they get patched up but the girl is proving difficult and can only be calmed down by Grandpa Robin and his singing Elvis tunes to her.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d_himZrGDSA/Vyz4JVmR9FI/AAAAAAAAAxs/TXAguBF4hz0go6gKmjCaqD7Z7ow9hcqOgCLcB/s1600/casualtyfeb16S30E22M.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d_himZrGDSA/Vyz4JVmR9FI/AAAAAAAAAxs/TXAguBF4hz0go6gKmjCaqD7Z7ow9hcqOgCLcB/s320/casualtyfeb16S30E22M.JPG" /></a></div>
Mom tries to put an end to all of this but the doctors wisk HER away because of a bloody coughing fit. She is found to have some kind of Pleurisy type ailment and is confined to a bed. Meanwhile, the girl makes her escape.
<BR><BR>
When Robin and the gang from the hospital realize she must be at the carnival, they race to find her. And of course, they find her at the top of the empty Ferris Wheel.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zxxgv2bVvDU/Vyz4eu1uOvI/AAAAAAAAAx0/1blO5TRn8A4z-6HVmq8mdYiNXidFErvXgCLcB/s1600/casualtyfeb16S30E22I.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zxxgv2bVvDU/Vyz4eu1uOvI/AAAAAAAAAx0/1blO5TRn8A4z-6HVmq8mdYiNXidFErvXgCLcB/s320/casualtyfeb16S30E22I.JPG" /></a></div>How did she get up there? Why would someone let JUST an obviously disabled girl on a Ferris Wheel all alone and start the ride without anyone else in any other seat? Usually they wait until a line has formed before starting up a ride and letting people on. And why would it conveniently stall right when she was at the very top? All is left for the viewer to ponder. Because of course it makes for very suspenseful drama for an anxiety-ridden, nerdy hospital worker to climb up to keep her company so she doesn’t fall out. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nmnLb74YfZ0/Vyz4spMdkYI/AAAAAAAAAx8/jT6R9pN1Ch4dB0mb7s_bBDrrSNZGhL-vACLcB/s1600/casualtyfeb16S30E22H.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nmnLb74YfZ0/Vyz4spMdkYI/AAAAAAAAAx8/jT6R9pN1Ch4dB0mb7s_bBDrrSNZGhL-vACLcB/s320/casualtyfeb16S30E22H.JPG" /></a></div>If only Robin was a little younger and didn’t have his arm in a sling perhaps he could have been the brave one!
<BR><BR>
Sappy ending of course with all turning out all right and mom forgiving Robin and everyone happy that all is well. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sdBg0FENHjo/Vyz46ylMMvI/AAAAAAAAAyE/FQQWm6bCfdsXhIbjYJwVH1xRqTDf_XjLACLcB/s1600/casualtyfeb16S30E22K.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sdBg0FENHjo/Vyz46ylMMvI/AAAAAAAAAyE/FQQWm6bCfdsXhIbjYJwVH1xRqTDf_XjLACLcB/s320/casualtyfeb16S30E22K.JPG" /></a></div>

<BR><BR>
Way back in an episode of this series from 2009, Robin had a guest role as a conman who swindled guests at a hotel in the resort town of Benidorm. I reviewed it <a href="http://robinaskwithmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2010/05/benidorm-2009.html">here</a>. It was a good role and I was happy to hear that he was going to appear again, reprising the same character. What seemed impossible was actually seeing this episode. Still I cannot view UK shows on their websites from a computer in the US. I even tried downloading the anonymous browser Tor, and it didn’t work for them. I couldn’t find it on YouTube for months. But now, I finally have found it on YouTube and it is now watched!
<BR><BR>
I have not seen any episodes of Benidorm since I watched it last time, almost six years ago. Back then, I thought it was a very clever and funny show. Now it seems tired and not as funny. Robin didn’t seem to have the energy or enthusiasm as he did the first time. I’m not even sure what the point was in having him back, honestly. He didn’t really have much to do. He arrives under a fake name, and tries to sweet-talk the owner into giving him a job at the hotel because he “really needs one”. She has to decide between him and a girl who is really qualified, but he keeps flattering her and insinuating something romantic might be possible. Some of that banter is a little amusing, but Robin just didn’t seem that into his acting like he usually is. And then, at the end, he comes right out and tells her he doesn’t really want the job, he just wants her to put him on the payroll….right after that a couple of guests come in and recognize him from his last visit and he rushes out.
<BR><BR>
So….it was nice seeing him, but the role didn’t really make sense. Why would a conman come back to the same hotel he had scammed previously? Why? Why would he be so obvious about not being qualified for the job? I don’t get it!

<BR><BR>
Finally got to watching this interview, which comes as an "extra" on the "Der Schreckensturm Der Zombies" DVD set I reviewed a few months ago. If you're a Robin fan, it's worth getting this just to watch it! He is as engaging and interesting as ever, and it is quite long, somewhere in between 45-60 minutes, I didn't keep track.
<BR><BR>
Darrell keeps the interview flowing without the same tired old questions. There was barely any "Confessions" talk, thank goodness! Glad to not have to sit though another account of how difficult the "bubbles" scene was to do. He starts out by telling Robin he looks great and asks what he secret is, to which Robin is quick with an amusing reply. Then they briefly touch on some of the projects he had just been working on up to that point: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Dead Funny, Coronation Street, and Benidorm, with stories to tell about each, including a really hilarious one about him finding out he had rehearsed the wrong part in Dead Funny!
<BR><BR>
They then visit the past, with Hans Brinker stories (most of which can be found in his book), the "Confessions" record he put out and how he came to do that, and his subsequent appearance on the Marc Bolan show to sing it.
<BR><BR>
Tower of Evil is then talked about, and how he had originally wanted the larger role of "Brom" in it, since after all, he had been the star of a few movies by this time. (I've always thought that myself!) - He didn't explain exactly why Gary Hamilton was given the role instead of him, but to make up for it, Richard Gordon went on to write the part of Jason in Horror Hospital just for him, so all turned out okay in the end. Just recently, Robin said, Richard Gordon had sent him the latest digitally remastered DVD copy of Horror Hospital. Although he said he honestly couldn't tell the difference he gained a new appreciation for how artistically the movie had been filmed. He then added a few memories he had of filming it, but nothing we hadn't heard before.
<BR><BR>
"Let's Get Laid" and "All Coppers Are" were briefly touched upon before they went on to discuss the flurry of new horror movies he was involved with that he was never able to get copies of: "Evil Calls", "El Dorado", and "Back2Hell" (the last two of which I still have to see as well) and how funny it is that their titles keep changing.
<BR><BR>
"Bottle Boys" and "Bless this House" are talked about for a bit, and then finally "Confessions" - but not the same stuff you always hear. Robin says how "Window Cleaner" was a real story and the others were pretty one-dimensional with no real story, which is true. And when he went on to film "Stand Up Virgin Soldiers" people expected it to be a continuation of the "Confessions" theme, which it definitely was not, and Darrell points out he thinks it was Robin's finest acting work. Another "Confessions" project in the plans was supposed to be one called "Confessions of a Haunted House" - something I'd never heard about before and something that sounds pretty interesting. I wonder what that would have been about! Guess I'll have to read the book. ;)
<BR><BR>
Robin so easily slips into such humorous tales, it's such a treat to watch him speak. Hope it'll be possible for me to go to one of these appearances one day.

Been waiting a bit to see if I could find the complete episode of this appearance on YouTube, but so far this is all I've found, a minute and a half clip. So...not sure if he was on again later in the episode. If anyone knows, or if anyone knows where to find the complete episode, I'd love to hear from you!
<BR><BR>
Anyway, not much to say about this. His character comes to town with what looks like a traveling carnival. He'd just been in Amsterdam and knows one of the townspeople here, much to the dismay of the other townspeople. Looks like another silly soap otherwise. Their accents are so thick I really can only decipher about 50% of what they're saying, even Robin! And I'm someone who has watched a lot of shows from the UK. YouTube's CC feature doesn't seem to understand what they're saying either! :P

2024 update: Originally I'd linked the Youtube videos here but I guess they've been taken down so I deleted my links to them. Perhaps the video is still out there somewhere if you search for it.
